Fun board games for 3 people to play?

Question by Zen: Fun board games for 3 people to play?
From what I can tell, most board games aren’t meant for only 3 people. Either they need teams, so you need a 4th person, or they fall flat with only 3 people playing. Are there any board games you’ve actually enjoyed playing with only 3 people? The only ones I’ve found that work so far are Apples to Apples and Scrabble.

Try “Slap The Deck” or the card version of “Monopoly” their fun and easy to play.

Three is a hard number for a lot of games.

There’s a great game called Alhambra that works really well with three people. It’s a game where you have money in your hand which you can use to buy tiles from the Market which is in the middle of the board. When you buy a tile you place it in front of you and try to make the best collection of buildings before the game ends. It’s a lot of fun and works fantastically with three players.

Poison is one of my favorite games right now. It works well with any number of players even three. In the game you are trying to mix potions by placing cards into pots, but you don’t want to put more than 13 points into any one pot or else that pot boils over and you have to take the points, which is bad. For a 3 player game you deal out a hand of cards that don’t get played that turn, which adds an interesting mix into the game because you can’t as easily figure out whether or not it’s worth taking points to try to be immune to a specific color(if you have the most cards of a color at the end of a round you don’t have to count those points, except for Poison, you always count Poison).

Dominion is a great game for 2-4 players and works just as well with 3. In it you’re playing with a deck of cards that you’re building as you play it. It’s kind of hard to explain but it’s fantastic.

You can find these games at your Friendly Local Game Store, just go in and as about what games they’d suggest for 3 players, I’m sure they’ll have a lot of good suggestions, and they’ll be able to help you figure out which ones to try first to see how complex you want to go. I like some fairly complex games, like this crazy one called Caylus which is just really weird and has very specific rules about moving things around and building things, it’s hard to get into.

There are a lot of great 3 player games out there now that I think of it, most of my Game Nights that my friends and I have break down into at least one 3 player game. All these work really well with 3 players:

    Monopoly Deal!
    Through The Desert
    Clue
    Mystery Express
    Blue Moon City
    Guillotine
    and many others.

I hope this has been helpful.
